About the Lambeth Portuguese Wellbeing Partnership

We are a grassroots network including over 40 local groups and partners. We combine our knowledge, passion, resources and skills to improve the health and wellbeing of the Portuguese-speaking community in Lambeth.  Our vision is a thriving community where anyone interested in any aspect of their health and wellbeing feels free and confident to get what they need from people they trust.

We are now seeking a Bilingual Network & Communication Assistant (English / Portuguese) to undertake day to day administrative and communication tasks to help us develop so that the network can grow.

Please note that this role is offered at 3 days a week for 3 months while we look to secure long term funding for the project after April 2019.

About this role

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside some of the most dynamic and creative organisations and individuals seeking to address the inequalities facing Lambeth’s Portuguese speaking community and to help that community flourish. The Lambeth Portuguese Wellbeing Partnership (LPWP) is a new and emerging community network. The next three months are a crucial time for us as we establish our governance and decision making processes, our volunteer roles, and our communication and social impact work. We are looking for someone to help with the development, communication and partnership working across the network.  Because the work is in and around the Portuguese speaking community in Lambeth, the ideal candidate will need to be able to speak and write fluent Portuguese and English. This represents a great opportunity to work directly alongside leaders from a range of sectors and positions in the health, community and social sector, not to mention alongside our principal funder, Guys and St Thomas Charity.

Although you will be spending much of your time in and around Lambeth, the role will be based in our partner organisation The Social Change Agency in King’s Cross.  SCA is the leading organisation supporting networks and movements with social purpose in the UK. Through this role you will benefit from their extensive knowledge of community building, network management and communication as well as be provided with mentoring, training and support, alongside guidance from LPWP.

There is likely to be occasional evening and weekend work and we are committed to making this job an interesting and worthwhile opportunity with plenty of scope for growth and development.

The role is likely to include:

  • Developing and assisting with the management of our network; setting up, attending, minute keeping and participating in meetings, online discussions and trainings; administration, record keeping, and volunteer support.
  • Assisting with recruiting and connecting members of  the network
  • Writing and researching blog posts, newsletters and articles in Portuguese and English.
  • Assisting with raising our profile through social media (i.e. Facebook and Twitter) and updating and maintaining our website
  • Assisting with the research and development of a Customer Relationship Management system
  • Performing desk-based  research to back up specific projects and communication.
  • Supporting our potential rebrand
  • Using any other skills you bring to the job that help fulfil our vision of a Portuguese speaking community that is flourishing, healthier and more connected.

About you

We are looking for a creative person with excellent attention to detail, who loves spreadsheets and creating order out of chaos, who enjoys talking to and connecting people, and who is excited by our vision. This is a start-up environment, if you need tight structure, strict schedules and procedures this role is not right for you.   You’ll be organised, curious and enterprising, with well-honed people and communication skills. You must be comfortable with using social media in English and Portuguese and be interested in network development to create social change.

You may be interested in developing a career in community development, network management, communication and/or health. You’ll be keen to make an impact in a small team and always looking for creative opportunities to develop your skills and the network.  We are looking for someone who is happy working on their own initiative with energy and enthusiasm. You must have a right to work in the UK.

How to apply

Please send a (maximum) two-‐page CV,  a covering letter and an example blog post in Portuguese AND English to [email protected] Your covering letter should be no more than one side of A4 and it should address how you meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of working with groups of people to achieve common goals
  • Enthusiasm for LPWP’s work and vision: what excites you about working with us?
  • Experience of developing and running administrative systems and meetings.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, experience of social media use and blog writing.

The interview will include a short communication exercise and an informal conversation about how your skills and experience could equip you to carry out the role,
