Loughborough Farm – first week of cafe, awards and a bid!

A heartfelt thank you to all of you good people who make the Loughborough Farm a great place. A special mention to Charlotte for leading us through the opening days of Loughborough Farm’s period at the Platform, Fabrice for last week’s training session and Jason for the art and happiness workshop.  We are delighted so many people have come to the Platform space to support us with our Loughborough Farm community cafe.  Cllr Jim Dickson came on our first day for a cuppa!

Congratulations to farm volunteer Karen Hooper who was this week awarded special ‘going the extra mile’ recognition in the Lambeth Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Lammy Awards, held at a ceremony at the Imperial War Museum. Accepting the award from Lambeth’s Mayor Councillor Donatus Anyanwu and Adrian McLachlan, CCG Chair, Karen thanked the Lambeth Living Well Collaborative for their support in their collective journey to reshape the vision for mental health wellbeing in Lambeth. Loughborough Farm was an important place, she said, where “getting your hands in the dirt” linked to wellbeing and building a resilient community.

Also receiving a ‘Kindness Award’ were Bernadette and June Johnson, practice Manager and receptionist from Herne Hill Road Medical, who have been working in partnership with us to introduce patients to the farm and have encouraged us to sell our fresh veg at the surgery. The Patient Participation Group described them as “Fountains of hope, endurance and inspiration. Warmth in a chilling climate.”

On Saturday 19 September it is Edible Gardens Open Day.   We will be doing a couple of Farm tours during our usual gardening session from 1pm.  There will be one tour at 2pm and another 3.30pm.

We will also be holding another session on the GLA funding bid at 3pm.  This is looking to secure funding to integrate some employment and workshop space with the farm. This process has been moving very quickly as the bid needs to be submitted in two weeks time so we will be showing what has been proposed so far and will be looking for design input from anyone and everyone. We are reaching out to local groups who can help make this bid a success for the local community and hope they will work with us.
On Sunday 20 September there will be a DIY workshop from 11am to 4pm to start constructing a new front to Loughborough Farm. Feel free to come down and get involved – the more the merrier. If you have your own hand drill please bring it along!
Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses are running a cob oven building session on Saturday 19 September, 9.30am to 5.30pm.  Email [email protected] to find out more.
