New volunteer welcome session, training and cooks for harvest lunch

Loughborough Farm plants close up

We still have plenty of planting that needs doing over the next few weeks, so please come and help with planting onions, peas, broad beans and transplanting our winter salads and brassicas.  We need a couple of small growing beds constructed for the plant room – so if you have DIY skills and can make something, please speak to Emily.
On Saturday 17 October there will be a Volunteer Welcome Session starting at 1.15pm.  This is for new volunteers and those who’ve not attended one previously.  Its an opportunity to find out how the Farm is organised including a tour, hear important volunteer information and find out how you can be involved.  It also gives us a chance to get to know a bit about you!  Please email [email protected] if you can attend.  There will be one happening on a tuesday very soon.
This will be followed by a mini training session led by Simon on plant care, including use of liquid plant feeds and best way to harvest particular crops.

On Tuesday 20 October there are a couple of volunteer birthdays to celebrate so we will be having cake!
On Sunday 25 October we will be having a World Food Harvest lunch from 1pm to 3pm.  We would love it if you can make a dish from a particular country and bring it to the Farm to share.  We would like to try and include something from the Farm in every dish – so please come on Saturday 24th (or the previous tuesday) to pick up some fresh farm produce.  We will distribute food on a first come, first served basis.  It would really help us if you could bring your own plates, cutlery, glasses, serving spoons etc.  If anyone can help with getting things ready before at 12 noon, please email [email protected].  The lunch will most probably happen in the Plant Room (undercover), but wrap up warm!
Some of the produce that maybe available to enjoy includes green tomatoes, pumpkin/squash, runner beans, small sweet potatoes, jerusalum artichokes, courgette, sweet peppers and chillis, including scotch bonnet!  We can also harvest some of the herbs that grow on the farm including parsley, rosemary, sage, rue, english thyme, sorrel, loveage, mint, oca leaf and leafy things like callaloo, kale – cavalo nero, mixed salad leaves and oriental greens like mizuna.
If you would like to help with some data entry of our harvest log we would very much like to hear from you.  No previous experience necessary and training will be provided.
