Over 100 objections received to the schemes on the Higgs triangle site

Throughout September and October a number of public meetings have been held by LJAG to discuss the Parritt Leng schemes for the Higgs Triangle site (between Herne Hill Road, Coldharbour Lane and Hinton Road). Two meetings were held with developer Parritt Leng presenting their scheme and responding to questions, and a further meeting was held without the developer, to discuss the views of local residents with the aim of reaching either a consensus or a strategy to address the two applications.

There is an overwhelming view that while the right development on the sites would be welcomed, this is not it. There is concern about the displacement of established and valued businesses, the impact of over 500 new residents on an already creaking infrastructure, and developing a key site without improved permeability to the surroundings. This permeability was a key concept and driver in the Loughborough Junction Plan produced last year by the community through LJAG and Lambeth Council jointly.

As a result of discussions, LJAG wrote to the Leader of the Council – Lib Peck – to request that a comprehensive masterplan of the area is produced. LJAG has received confirmation that this has been agreed with consultants to be appointed in early December and the plan delivered by the middle of January. LJAG has written further to Councillor Lib Peck requesting that Lambeth ask the developers to withdraw their two applications until the masterplan is in place.
