Youth engagement is an important aspect of LJAG’s work and we work on a range of different projects.
In July 2012 LJAG volunteer, Angela Akinyemi one of our most dedicate volunteers who sadly died in October 2013, organised a Youth Forum at the Karibu Centre in Gresham Road. The aim was to introduce local young people – many of whom have dropped out of school and are not in education or training – to a range of opportunities which are available to them, even those with no academic qualifications. Providers included:
- Roadworks Media – opportunities in media
- Street League – sports coaching and mentoring
- Versa – apprenticeships
- Neet2eet – online facility offering advice and guidance on training, courses, apprenticeships and jobs
- Divinemotions – apprenticeships and jobs in healthcare
- Prince’s Trust – ‘get into work’ programmes
- Green Man Skills Zone – employment advice, IT training, CV workshops and online apprenticeship support sessions
- London Creative Labs – skills camps
- IntoUniversity – advice on access to university
- The Baytree Centre – IT training for young women
Film-maker JaJa Soze showed his film, Lessons Learnt, followed by a question and answer session.
