Cynthia Roomes, Community Development Manager, for the Foundation, said:
“Following on from three of the most successful and challenging years I’ve spent working with and for local communities, in one of the most difficult social and economic climates, I am absolutely delighted (proud and chuffed in fact) to let you know that the Directory of Social Change has recognised our collective efforts. The London Community Foundation has been shortlisted in the Great Giving Funders Award 2014 for our special initiative Building Communities in Coldharbour.
“We would really appreciate your vote. It will help us gain widespread acknowledgment, and hopefully further investment for the BCC approach to funding grass roots social action. The BCC Community Challenge Fund has provided grants for resident led projects ranging from community events and day trips to tackling the impact of welfare reform; from money management mentors to social enterprise; from women’s work and business development to the arts; and much much more.
“BCC has helped to build confidence and empower local residents so that they are better able to successfully apply for funding, shaping their own destiny, improving local neighbourhoods and encouraging community cohesion. We could not have achieved this without the joined up thinking and heartfelt contributions of local people, groups, and organisations – thank you.”
Please vote now – voting closes at midnight on Monday 24 November
