World Food Harvest Day – Sunday 25 October 2015
On Sunday 25 October we will be having a World Food Harvest lunch from 1pm to 3pm at the Farm. We would love it if you can make a dish from a particular country and bring it to the Farm to share. If you want to come, but are unable to bring a dish you’re still welcome to join us – I’m sure there will be plenty! It would really help us if you could bring your own plates, cutlery, glasses/mugs, serving spoons etc.
We will sit down to eat at 1.30pm, so if you want your dish to be eaten hot, please bring it just before 1.30pm as there are no cookers on site. We will probably eat lunch in the Plant Room, but remember to wrap up warm!
If anyone can help with getting things ready before at 12 noon, please email
[email protected].
Cooks – we would like to try and include something from the Farm in every dish – so please come this Saturday to pick up some fresh farm produce. We will distribute food on a first come, first served basis.
Some of the produce that maybe available to enjoy includes green tomatoes, pumpkin/squash, runner beans, small sweet potatoes, jerusalum artichokes, courgette, sweet peppers and chillis, including scotch bonnet! We can also harvest some of the herbs that grow on the farm including parsley, rosemary, sage, rue, english thyme, sorrel, loveage, mint, oca leaf and leafy things like callaloo, kale – cavalo nero, mixed salad leaves and oriental greens like mizuna.
As usual, we will have lots to do at our usual growing sessions on Saturday and Tuesday 1-3pm so please join us if you can. A job that no one’s started yet is potting up our strawberry runners to make new strawberry plants for sale next year – let us know if you’d like to do that!
The Farm has plans to open for one extra session a week. Which day would you prefer: Thursday or Sunday and could you help run a session? Please answer this quick survey to let us know which day is the most popular. There are only two questions so it takes just a few seconds to complete.
Our friend Nicola who runs the Billiin project making gifts from recycled materials is now in The Platform, 2 Ridgway Road intil 11 November; check her out from 12 noon to 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 2pm to 11pm and on Sundays from 12 noon to 5pm. Come and make your own fridge magnet; they will be small works of art, and there are events planned for Halloween and Bonfire night.
And for the diary:
Sunday 25 November – Green Roof Workshop – we will be building a green roof on the shipping container at the Farm and other nature-inspired additions. Watch this space for times.
Saturday 5 December – Loughborough Junction Christmas Fare at Sunshine International Arts and around Loughborough Junction. Come and buy some Christmas presents made by local makers and artists and meet your neighbours for some festive cheer.
